In the following interview, you will get to know more about Asimos aka Panos, who is one of our 6-max Coaches. Great to have him on board!
How are you doing in general and at the poker tables?
My overall win rate is around 5bb / 100 which is one of the best in my knowledge. My main limit is 100nl zoom.
When did you actually start playing poker?
I am 33 years old. My main job is Ph.D. researcher in Engineering.
I play poker for about 5 years. In my first steps in my poker career, I used to mostly study the game rather than grinding. Watched many videos and read all the major poker books.
However, I was still struggling at the micros, so I decided to invest in private coaching.
Private coaching helped me a lot to improve.
Having that said, the critical point in my boost as a player came when I decided to take all the teachings from the private coaching and combine them with my research and personal strategy.
Last 2 years I play mostly 6max NL Holdem, mainly fast formats (Zoom and rush. Check my progress here: Am I moving up to 200nl?? – asimos Poker Blog ).
My current limit is 100nl 6max zoom and I am also making my first shots at 200nl zoom.
My win rate is one of the highest in POKERSTARS in the toughest site and game format, although I don’t put a lot of volume since I have a very busy schedule.
What do you like most about being a coach for BPC?
I really enjoy talking about poker and interacting with other players who share the same passion for the game with me.
BPC is a very organized and professional community with high standards. Being a coach for it is a challenge and honor the same time.
I am happy to be part of it and hopefully help and bring some new ideas myself 🙂
Where do you actually come from or live right now and how is it to live there?
I am from Greece. Currently, I live in Dublin – Ireland. Life here is funny, people are friendly and nightlife is really good 🙂
What are your plans for the future in general and in poker?
I plan to finish my Ph.D. by this January. Regarding poker, I plan to move up at 200nl zoom by September.
How do you motivate yourself to put in the hours at the tables, Panos?
I don’t need motivation since I love the game… poker is a passion for me… the key is to enjoy what you do and choose in life what makes you happy… then you are happy doing it 🙂
What advice would you give the students?
You should stay student as long as you play the game. Having a plan of improving every day is the only way to succeed. Seek your goals without complaining. Put the effort, results will come.
Thanks a lot for your time! We are happy to have you on board!
