I could tell you that I am the secret love child of Neptune and Cymopoleia (Poseidon’s daughter.) After all why be a shark when you can be a god? I could tell that I’m a bigger champion than Imachampion, that I am greater than Hansthegreat, that finishing BPC quicker than $teezy is easy but those are just hollow words. Actions will always speak louder than words! So I’ll try to keep this short (I don’t really do short, there is a TLDR) and let the results do the talking.

    About Me

I’m ScrewyGooey a 27 years old Slops (Single, living off parents) who has joined BPC’s coaching for profits program. I had a flat and job which I lost through a combination of naivety, stupidity and one scummy person (he’s been on Jeremy Kyle for those familiar with the show.) I’m not really living off my parents either. My mother has mental health issues and I care for her. I’m the cook, cleaner etc. nothing is done for me. Wouldn’t feel sorry me though, my situation is kinda sucky because of me. My childhood was tough an alcoholic father and mentally ill mother is not a good environment. Ultimately though I made terrible decisions. I was lazy and instead of changing my life I’d beat myself up over my mistakes in one giant pity party. Drugs became a big (huge) part of my life around 15 and eventually I just stopped getting back up when I took hits. At 17-19 I pushed my friends away and from that point started just drifting through life which was when the pity party started. Sad thing is I was a smart kid but coasted through school because I could. I didn’t go into a single full day of school in my final year and never once got pulled up on it, my parents were oblivious (That failure is on my school.) I got decent grades but they should have been straight A’s. One friend who went to school with me will tell anyone we meet if the subject comes up that the difference is I could of gone to Oxford/Cambridge (Big two uni’s in the UK) if I’d wanted to. He’s a smart guy and works for the civil service, he’s one of the few people in his type of role that didn’t go to Oxford/Cambridge. That’s not a brag it’s an example of my failure. Basically I’m a less smart, less messed up Will Hunting. So this is why this blog exists because my perspective has changed. This is my redemption. The drive, determination and motivation has come flooding back. Chasing my dreams, eating well, training hard and improving my life. Wish youtube and the motivational videos had been around when I was growing up because I desperately needed that wisdom. You see I remember telling everyone at school I’d be a millionaire by the time I was 21 and people genuinely believed me so now I’m targeting that for 31 instead. It’s never to late to be who you were supposed to be!

ScrewyGooey and Poker… Still a better love story than twilight!

At the time when I started pushing people away I discovered poker. My friends came round and introduced me to the game. I had no idea what was going on but it was love a first sight. As with all budding romances I quickly through myself into it head first. Went straight online and started playing after a little heater my $20 deposit disappeared. After free advice online, deposited again and started winning, the relationship was blossoming. I bought Harrington on tournament poker, Harrington on limit, the theory of poker etc. and started learning more. I ended up with around $1,500 from limit poker and nl rebuy tournies. Eventually the age old tragedy of family disapproval wrecked the relationship and it was over. I cashed out and did my best to forget my love.

Fast forward a few years and I found myself yearning to be reunited with my love, why I had been so stupid and let her go! It was the dawn of the poker schools. So I signed up to pokerstrategy and got a free £20. A week in they launched a promotion with Mansion Poker (who sponsored Spurs football team at the time) offering tickets to Spurs V Arsenal league cup game to the 3 highest rake earners. Being a massive Arsenal fan and having never been to a North London derby before I had to win them. Beast mode ensued of 8-12 table for 12+ hours a day for 2-3 weeks. Playing on the lowest limits and following proper BR management had to go hard. Ended up 2nd in the promotion and that free £20 was now £200. I went to the Arsenal game we lost to spurs for the first time in something like 8 years but at least I’d been to a derby. It was but a mere fling though as these rekindling love affairs so often are. I needed the cash so I withdrew and that was me done with poker. I got a job, moved out and that was that.

Next I lost my job with a holiday coming up, I needed to raise some spending cash. My thoughts turned to that one love I could always rely on! I got a free $10 for 888, $10 from a friend and grinded SNG’s and rebuy MTT’s. I turned it into $700 in 20 days. Also managed to win a seat to 888.com’s midstakes live tour event in London from a $1 satellite. Tourney cost something around £150 and 1st paid around £8,500. Probably played the best poker I have ever played in the final satellite. In the live tourney I made it to the 2nd and final day but crashed out on a flip near the bubble. I was out my depth, nervous and also ran pretty terrible. It was a great experience though and it only cost my a $1! I strongly considered getting serious about this relationship and taking it to the next level but I stupidly allowed others to poison me against my love. The 2+2 naysayers turned me off with the games are so tough now, law of diminishing returns bs! Thanks a lot 2+2 you lost me 3 years experience and time with my love!

The rest of this story remains unwritten. I have now been reunited with my love and we’re hoping there will be a happy ending to our story!

    Why Gordon’s (Raskolnikov) CFP?

In recent times I started turning my life around. I decided to trust my heart and intuition ala Steve Jobs as it somehow knows what it is I’m supposed to do. One look at this history will show I always come back to poker. We were meant to be. So I just decided this what I am going to do. Did the research and built my first ever PC on a budget purely for poker. Started planning how I was going approach the game and decided to concentrate on NL cash games as this was always the worst area of my game. In my research I stumbled across a BPC blog and after watching a couple of Gordon’s videos I realised this was the best place for me. I took the 100k challenge with no cash game experience at all and here I am having been accepted. Little doubt in my mind that I’ve made the right decision as everything I’ve experienced up until now has reinforced my opinion. One of major motivations outside the structure and knowledge was being a part of a team. For me that is the major bonus of the CFP program, getting to know others who share similar goals and dreams in life. My hope is on top of crushing that I’ll forge some genuine lasting relationships and meet people who will be potential business partners. After all once you start making money you’ve got to put it to work! I’m lucky there has been many students before me I get to benefit from that so I want to go hard and push myself. Personally I’m not a huge fan of arbitrary number targets but $100-$100,000 sounds sexy and is sufficiently difficulty to motivate me!

    TLDR – I’m ScrewyGooey. I’ve joined BPC’s CFP program. I’m going to crush. $100-$100,000 in 1 year!

Here are my motivators/commandments! Had to wait for the week to start as I don’t have a printer and my handwriting is atrocious. Apologise for the quality but I was using my webcam to take the photo. Couldn’t find a proper frame for them so I framed these photos instead 🙂

Just in case anyone wants to see the commandments clearly, I did this one as well.

Ok so time for a proper update.

I kind of cheated my last update by using the pictures as an update but I really had little to comment on then. We had our first session with GG and that was great. Was nervous, think everyone was but annoyed myself because I had a ton of questions ready but didn’t pipe up with them except one because of the nerves. My questions got answered and I would of said something had they not. Just there were some big quiet gaps and I had prepared so I should of stepped up, this is something I already knew about as an issue which is more why I was annoyed to be honest. Also avoided telling my why or what I do currently, to be fair in both cases hadn’t prepared so would of been tough to keep it simple. Also tied myself up in knots over a simple task GG gave me, that was me worrying about not being perfect (ie doing it wrong) that I’ve also been working on grrrrr! Realisation is the first step to improvement! Anyway enough with the negativity just wanted to put it out there as it makes it more of commitment to myself not to let silly shit like that hold me back. Other than that I was pumped and we got the go ahead to start playing again. Thank god!! Never been sooooo desperate to play in my life. Really looking forward to getting out of the fuck around stage too where we (the students) don’t quite know what’s going on and getting to the real hard work.

Sooo yes back to why we are here playing poker! Got to do 10k hands before I can move on. Session went really well, at one point had a 5 buyin downswing (not overall) and it didn’t effect me at all. One issue was concentrating too hard on getting the std lines perfect and as a result timing out on tables which of course made more std lines errors than I caught by concentrating too hard lol. So I dropped that mindset and started playing with a lot less pressure. I made 11 euros with 2k hands so happy days! I ran hot later in the session (about time lol) and a reg also seemed to somewhat lose his mind on me. Here is the graph

I expected to complete the rest of the 10k before posting this but it didn’t happen as I was up late (deliberate turned off the recurring alarm night before) and had other things CFP related to do first. Not a problem, teething issues and taking longer to do things is just a fact of starting out. It will get done tomorrow! Will get a few hours in now. Tomorrow rise and grind!

Great graph! Nice to see you doing well. I think the session with Gordan was good and we did step 1-2 of the commandments.

    Welcome and good luck!

Thanks Dimitris! Skimmed your blog great attitude. Can’t go through it properly right now, loved this Ivey quote though

About emotions, Phil Ivey was asked in one interview to compare the rush between craps and baccarat and poker: ” A lot more thinking in poker, I don’t really FEEL a rush when I play poker. I’m so much living in my head, so much thinking about my opponents, I don’t have time to feel that way.”

nice nice grind screwy :-) …..si this NL2 or NL 5?

Thanks Vasja! It’s NL2. Starting at the bottom!

Anyway came on the blog to post my homework, completely forgot we were supposed to post it.

Avg error is large because I put one hand the wrong way round so it was out massively. Outside of that this last one was the only one I got badly wrong. I try to do them quickly and not overthink as otherwise it defeats the point. I can think about what I did wrong afterwards then.
