Q: Was the CBET OTF correct?

A: According to NOBS, it was a dry board and I had an overcard. I would fold if I hit nothing OTT.

    A. Cbet here is fine. It’s a somewhat dry board. Dry enough to cbet any2 50% pot imo. In this specific hand it’s even better to cbet because our hand has good backdoor draws/equity.

    • I would fold if I hit nothing OTT.

You mean you would check (Assuming BB doesn’t donkbet).
As it is, we do pick up some equity OTT (we now have a gutshot) and should barrel here.

OTT you would barrel vs a fish? its not like we have a lot a lot of equity and can expect him to fold a whole lot. I think the 8 connects with his calling range pretty solid so not much fold equity. Like, hes not folding Jx, prolly not 6x, all the mid suited connectors now have more equity, 78, 98s, T8s, etc arent going nowhere. I prefer the x here tbh.

I’m saying in this case Hero should barrel pretty much regardless of playertype.
Main reason why, is because Hero is relatively new to BPC/NOBS and is playing 2NL. In the beginning, just follow the lines.

I think we disucssed a similar spot not too long ago on skype where i indeed said i would prefer a check, but i thats on different stake and when we discuss spots, we’re taking into account more variables and doing so with higher precision than a fresh 2NL student.
I’m pro fundamentals first and foremost in these cases, instead of complicating things when i’m not sure it might introduce confusion more than anything else with a student.

As far as your ranging goes, T8/98 unlikely to call imo (undercards with marginal backdoor equity) and we block 87.  So no, i dont think his range connects much with the 8.
But suppose I’m wrong and T8/98 are both in range. That would mean this opponent calls a whole lot more vs our cbet, which now missed on 8h and we still have a profitable double barell.

I wasnt trying to overcomplicate it. I just meant “Dont bluff fish without equity” and I dont think we have more than 6 outs to improve. I agree with leroy, though, you should follow NOBS. I dont think barrelling woudl be terrible here either way on NL2. People do fold too much because of wider ranges anyways.
