    My situation

Well, hello everybody. I’m a 28 year old guy, living in Europe, working at minimum 8 hours a day for a minimum wage, the job isn’t difficult though, but not spending the entire paycheck is  🙂 . I’m hoping to change that situation, at least the monthly income part, which is why I joined the BPC community. I want to become the best player that I can, in other words use all the potential I’ve got to become better at this game. Some additional money never hurts also.

    My poker story

I guess you’ve heard it before, I learned how to play a long time ago, maybe around 7 years ago. I was the least terrible player at home games with my friends so obviously I deposited 20$ online expecting to continue my winning streak, lost that pretty quickly and somehow forgot about poker until a year and a half ago. In the meantime I somehow managed to get a Master’s degree in engineering, but I don’t like the jobs that come with the degree. So after I finished college I realized that poker still exists on this planet and there’s something to be learned in this game, I took it more seriously and built an initial bankroll playing micro stake MTTs. As far as cash games go, I don’t have a lot of experience, played around 80k hands altogether online (6max and FR) and now I’m here in the baby version of the coaching for profits program hoping to make the most of it.

My long term goal is simple, complete the CFP program in a decent time frame and learn as much as I can while on the way. As far as my short term goals go, I can’t be sure what I’m aiming for yet, it will be more clear after the first few coaching sessions when I get a better idea where I am.

The graph of the 80k hands that I mentioned :

Hi all,  in the last 2 weeks I haven’t played nearly as much as I intended to. I’ve been going through the study material we got within the course , also I had to set up the software perfectly before I started playing. I ran into some problems regarding hand tracking on  iPoker, still didn’t solve that one but I started playing on a different site.

So far I’ve had two group coaching sessions and I’ve been getting used to the standard preflop lines I’m supposed to use. I played 6k hands, been running good in this microscopic sample, roughly 1.5 buy-ins over EV. I see that the last graph I posted isn’t visible any more so I’ll use a different host this time:

Hi all, so I passed the 10k hand mark recently, no real sample yet, but getting closer to it. I don’t have as much time for playing as I would like to, but I manage to play for a few hours every day. My intention is to study postflop equities every day, but sometimes I play a bit longer than I intend to so I have to go to bed right after that 🙂

So far I’ve only been playing NL10 and running quite good, also trying to make my decisons as easy as possible. Anyway here’s the graph for the first 11k hands:

Hi all, as I said already, I have a job that’s really easy but I still have to waste at least 8 hours on it every day and I count myself lucky seeing how some other guys have it. That’s why I didn’t play as many hands as I wanted to so far, I’m still under 20k but playing for a few hours every day.

I’ve been practicing with flop equity calculations for around half an hour a day, I’m making less mistakes than before but it’s still far away from acceptable.

The last 5k hands have been break-even more or less, altogether I’m satisfied for now, even though I’ve been running pretty good and it’s a very small sample. I’ll have a better idea when I see what the graph looks like after 50k hands. Anyway here’s the graph for all the hands so far:

Hey all, I’ve played a bit more than 10k hands last week, I hope to increase that number in the future. Daily I’ve been playing around 3,5 to 4 hours after work. I still don’t like playing more than 7 or 8 tables, that’s also one reason for the lower volume so far. The last 10k hands I’ve been break-even until the very end:   The whole graph so far looks like this :

    Hi all,

I’m still not doing well when volume is concerned, this last week has been an exception however, I had less time to play than I usually do.

On the other hand I’ve running very good lately, not sucking out, but my best hands often stay the best until the river. I’m around 5 buy-ins over EV so far.

I’ve been practicing  flop equities and I’ve had some small improvement, still nowhere near acceptable, that only shows how much room to improve I had at the beginning.

Hi all, it’s been more than 2 weeks since my last update. I barely played any poker in the last 10 days because I had some work related stuff to do that didn’t leave me much time for other things, so my hand count for december is much lower than expected.

Anyway, things should be going back to normal now and I hope I’ll have a decent number of hands to show at the end of the month.

On the other hand, as far as winrate is concerned, it’s still going fine, I keep my strategy  simple and I’m also running good. I should be quicker in determining my pot odds and equity while I’m in the hand, so I’m working on that daily.

Here’s the graph for the last 10k hands:

    Hi all,
It’s been another week, not much has changed because I played less than 10k hands during that period. I’m still doing equity and pot odds calculation exercises for roughly 30 minutes a day even on those days when I don’t have time for playing.
It’s obvious that I’m not doing well when volume is concerned. I’m still running pretty good though, so my winrate is fine for now, better than the other way around I guess.

So it’s time for a new update since I kind of made it a habit of posting my graphs every 10k hands. As it’s visible from the graphs I’m still running pretty good, I hope that’s not the only reason for a positive winrate though.

I’m getting closer to playing my first 100k hands which is my short term goal right now along with keeping the positive winrate.

I feel I’m getting a bit better with simple equity calculations I’ve been practicing with, but I’m not sure it’s having any effect on my game yet since I’m using a simple strategy and difficult equity calculations don’t come up that often.

Anyway here’s the graphs, the last 10k hands have started with a short downswing and then a good run helped me finish with a profit. All in all it’s a good start into the new year.

    Happy new year everyone !

    Hi all,

So, I said I’ll post my graph after another 10k hands, I forgot to do that and I have played 17k hands since the last time I posted here, so I’ll post that graph.

Things haven’t changed much lately, I’m still attending every coaching session, practicing equties every day, but it’s hard to say whether my game is actually improving, I guess I’ll have more info on that in the upcoming weeks.

I think I’ve been making more mistakes lately than I used to which made me more nervous while I was playing. I managed to make a profit in the end because I was lucky in the sense that I was making a lot of strong hands which you can see from my luck bell curve which after 93k hands looks like this:

Next time I post here I will have finally played my first 100k hands since the start of this thread, but for now here’s the graph for my last 17k hands:

Just like I said – Next time I post here I’ll have at least a 100k hands played on NL10.
So after 101k hands I’m running around 8 BIs over EV, a good start to my CFP journey.

The complete graph looks like this :

I guess now would be the time to take a look at my overall profit including rakeback and bonuses which looks like this :

    Profit after 100k hands : 1075 €

I guess the real deal starts now, I’ve been moved up to the intermediate course of the CFP which means a lot of new stuff to study including new ranges.
Recenty my results with Uhlvar equtiy haven’t been good, maybe because I’ve been concentrating on making it to 100k hands to advance to the intermediate course.

It’s not going to be easy, but nobody expected it to be easy.

    GL all.

I haven’t updated in a long time, I didn’t play a lot lately, especially in March, only 25k hands altogether.

I moved to another city last week, so I’ll be playing more poker in the future and hopefully improve my game faster. I still struggle with some standard spots and I’m not sure how to play them, but there aren’t that many sharks on NL10 so I’m doing fine so far.

I will post some hands that I analyzed with All-In Expert so all of the hands are going to be preflop situations

    Hand #1

    Microgaming – €0.10 NL (6 max) – Holdem – 6 players
    Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

    UTG: 133.6 BB
    MP: 60 BB
    Hero (CO): 100 BB
    BTN: 109.8 BB
    SB: 206 BB
    BB: 106.8 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has  T 9

UTG raises to 3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 9 BB, fold, fold, fold, UTG raises to 23 BB

This player was a bit loose, so the question is do we have a profitable shove vs his range. I gave him a 4-betting range which some bluffs that he would be folding to a shove, QQ+, AK, KJs, A9s, A4-A5s. Even against that range it looks like we should be shoving only premium hands and some pocket pairs.

    Hand #2

    Microgaming – €0.10 NL (6 max) – Holdem – 6 players
    Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

    CO: 254.4 BB
    BTN: 112.9 BB
    SB: 130.6 BB
    Hero (BB): 126.6 BB
    UTG: 20.7 BB
    MP: 100 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has  9 9

fold, fold, fold, fold, SB raises to 3 BB, Hero raises to 9 BB, SB raises to 22.5 BB,

    Flop: (45 BB, 2 players)  K 8 T
    SB bets 27 BB, fold,

After he 4-bets do we have a profitable shove with 99? In these exercises the ranges I assign to players are similar to those we use in the same spots. His 4-betting range: QQ+, ATs+, AQo+, KJs+

We don’t have a profitable shove with 99 here.

    CO: 97 BB (VPIP: 25.41, PFR: 19.21, 3Bet Preflop: 2.83, Hands: 311)
    Hero (BTN): 101 BB
    SB: 274.2 BB (VPIP: 20.52, PFR: 16.15, 3Bet Preflop: 8.93, Hands: 6,306)
    BB: 160.5 BB (VPIP: 36.36, PFR: 24.68, 3Bet Preflop: 3.85, Hands: 82)
    UTG: 104 BB (VPIP: 16.67, PFR: 15.15, 3Bet Preflop: 8.33, Hands: 68)
    MP: 113.3 BB (VPIP: 11.43, PFR: 8.57, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 73)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has  8 9

fold, fold, CO raises to 3 BB, Hero raises to 9 BB, fold, fold, CO raises to 23 BB,

Very strange result with all-in expert, looks like we can shove extremely wide here. I assigned this player a range of JJ+, AK, and half as likely hands: A9s, A2-A5s, ATo, KJo
