    So after a good start of this week I took a small shot at NL400 again, it lasted exactly 93 hands. Hopefully the next try will go better.

    When it comes to poker results, this month has so far been far from the best, but not the worst – pretty much breakeven. It’s only a couple of days left so it probably won’t change much. Going from having dreams of a huge March to the latest results kinda sucks, but I just have to work more I guess and try to not let the results put me down too much. If I put in time and effort it will change, like when I had my biggest losing month in January and then it all turned around in February and for about a month and a half I had a huge upswing.

    Well, what better way to finish a bad month than with a stoploss? I need to step it up the next month.

    Is this spew? Considering I didn’t know anything about villain it probably is He would be pretty crazy to do it with worse for value and I got no clue if he can bluff like this, if he bluffs at all. Worst hand to call should be QJ.

    I should probably have folded here because of the connected board. It’s hard for villain to do it with a worse hand for value and a bluff is not very likely with a minraise. I should stack off with AQ+.

    Well, April was not the best month and the start of May has not been too good. I’m now going to go back to basics with nitty villain selection and standard lines. This way I can avoid many tough decisions and get back some confidence.

    Last week was very positive for a change. It helps when you get quads over full house:

    €2 NL (2 max) – Holdem – 2 players
    Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

    BB: €464.01
    Hero (SB): €276.41

    Hero posts SB €1.00, BB posts BB €2.00

    Pre Flop: (pot: €3.00) Hero has  9 9

    Hero raises to €4.00, BB raises to €8.00, Hero raises to €23.00, BB calls €15.00

    Flop: (€46.00, 2 players)  K 2 9
    BB bets €2.00, Hero raises to €20.00, BB calls €18.00

    Turn: (€86.00, 2 players)  9
    BB bets €26.00, Hero raises to €66.00, BB raises to €284.00, Hero calls €167.41

    River: (€552.82, 2 players)  K

    BB shows  2 2  (Full House, Twos full of Kings)
     (Pre 18%, Flop 4%, Turn 0%)
    Hero shows  9 9  (Four of a Kind, Nines)
     (Pre 82%, Flop 96%, Turn 100%)
    BB wins €50.59
    Hero wins €551.32

    After this the villain was kind enough to jam his last 100bb every hand until I stacked him again.

    Homework.

    1. Villain’s range is 66+, AJ+. How many combinations of pairs does he have? Write them out, like this: AA(number of combos), KK(number of combos),etc.

    66 (6), 77 (6), 88 (6), 99 (6), TT (6), JJ (6), QQ (6), KK (6) and AA (6) -> 6*9 = 54

    2. Villain’s range is any two cards ten and higher (TT+, JT+,QT+,KT+,AT+). How many combinations is that? Write them out.

    TT (6), JJ (6), QQ (6), KK (6), AA (6), JT (16), QT (16), KT (16), AT (16), QJ (16), KJ (16), AJ (16), KQ (16), AQ (16) and AK (16) -> 6*5 + 16*10 = 190

    3. How many suited Ax combinations are there? Write them out.

    A2 (4), A3 (4), A4 (4), A5 (4), A6 (4), A7 (4), A8 (4), A9 (4), AT (4), AJ (4), AQ (4) and AK (4) -> 4*12 = 48

    4. The flop is AQ5. We have AK. How many combinations of sets are possible for villain (assuming he can have any hand)? Write them out.

    55 (3), QQ (3) and AA (1) -> 7

    5. The flop is AsQd5h. We have 6s5s. How many combinations of AQs can villain have? Write them out.

    AhQh AcQc -> 2

    6. The flop is AQ7r. We have 77. How many combinations of gutshots can villain have? Write them out.

    KJ (16), KT (16), JT (16) -> 48

    7. The flop is AQ7r. How many TP+ combinations are there? Write them out.

    A2 (12), A3 (12), A4 (12), A5 (12), A6 (12), A8 (12), A9 (12), AT (12), AJ (12), AK (12), Q7 (9), A7 (9), AQ (9), 77 (3), QQ (3), AA (3) -> 12*10 + 9*3 + 3*3 = 156

    8. How many combinations from question 7 do we beat with AT? Write them out.

    If we have AT there is one less A villain can have. A2 (9), A3 (9), A4 (9), A5 (9), A6 (9), A8 (9), A9 (9) -> 9*7 = 63 (His number of combinations in 7. would be 9*10 + 9*3 + 3*3 = 126

    9. Villain from question 2 (TT+, JT+,QT+,KT+,AT+) goes to the flop. The flop is As8s9c. Does he have more combinations of made hands (and 1P+), or draws (any FD, OESD, GS)?

    Made hands: TT (6), JJ (6), QQ (6), KK (6), AA (3), AT (12), AJ (12), AQ (12), AK (12) -> 6*4 + 3 + 12*4 = 75
    Draws: JT (16), QJ (16), QT (16), KsTs (1), KsJs (1), KsQs (1) -> 51
    75>51 -> made hands win

    10. Villain from question 9 goes all-in on the flop with all of his made hands and draws. The flop is $10, and he has $15. Can we profitably call him with TdTc?

    Pot odds: 1.5x overbet = 37.5%. TT has 29.75% equity vs his range so we can’t profitably call.

    If my last week’s results continues, May may very well turn out to be a pretty good month, which is cool after the bad start and losing a bit in April.

    On Sunday it’s Norway’s national day so I will take a day off then. It’s a pretty nice day with lots of stuff going on.

    Today I think I had one of my best sessions ever, at least the best in a loooong time. At one point I played 6 tables, which I haven’t done in a while, and it went pretty well.

    This week I’ve had a couple of very good coaching sessions on two different topics were I made many mistakes. That was great. On the tables it’s not going very good, though.  That’s not so great.

    So this week ended up in the positive after a weak start. The last part of it I tried to just multi-table it up and see how I’d do. I’ve not had 2k hands per day very often. This week I got three in a row so that was pretty cool. I guess I have a lower expected BB/100, but my hourly is probably higher. The thing I found most curious is that my redline while multi-tabling has actually been pretty steady, while when I don’t play so many tables it usually goes straight down. It could be variance. It could also be that I might unknowingly game select tighter when playing many tables. Like if a guy is giving me some trouble it’s easier to just think “fuck him” and sitout when I’m playing five other people. In the end, though, it is probably just variance.

    I think there’s one all-in I won for 200 euros that’s missing in the graph.

    Four days left of May and I got a lot of time to play and feeling pretty motivated. I have a goal of hitting 6k in total profits, atm at about 3.7k so still quite a bit left. But I got some bonuses that I can cash out if I get enough hands in which will help quite a bit, I think it’s about 800. 1.5k in four days is definitely possible so I think I got a fair chance. After bad results in April it would feel great to reach this goal.

    I’ve played a lot of NL50 lately which I wouldn’t sit at before except if I didn’t get any action. It’s certainly a bit more of a grind than the other stakes, but it helps me to stay focused and sharp. And in the end there is some money to be won there as well.
