Swedish Superman Mikael Thuritz

Mikael Thuritz is a professional poker player from Sweden playing under the alias “ChaoRen160”, which are Chinese symbols for SuperMan. He also plays as “punting-peddler” on Full Tilt Poker. He’s one of the most consistent high stakes players in the history of online poker and was one of the earliest pro players to ever make it “big” in Macau, which is also known as the “Las Vegas of Asia”.

The Swedish Superman discovered poker at the age of 17 way back in 2002 and has been a big winner for well over a decade with nearly $1.3 million on PokerStars alone. He got his start playing No Limit Hold’em and still considers it his strongest variant, however Thuritz is widely considered one of the best mixed game players around. In addition to his impressive winnings on PokerStars, he’s also won $1.2 million on Full Tilt as well as many more on untracked Euro sites.

Thuritz has been a regular at the big games in Macau over the past few years, which is where he spends most of his time playing. His main game is the $1,000/$2,000 NL games where he’s won millions against some of the biggest high rollers in the world. He’s also final tabled a handful of WSOP events as well as a WCOOP title in the prestiguous $10k Heads Up No Limit Hold’em event. In total, he’s cashed around $2 million in tournaments in his career.

Over the past year or so, Thuritz has switched his focus a bit to PLO, saying that he loves the challenge, and noticed a dramatic improvement in his PLO play from playing in mixed games. Oddly enough, he’s not a big stats guy and admitted to not taking advantage of HUDs at PLO Zoom. It didn’t take long for him to adapt, however, as you can see from his graph above. In fact, Thuritz has won one of the biggest pots over the past 30 days according to HighStakesDB – winning $91,236.

Here is an interview with Mikael Thuritz. It’s from 2015, however, it’s one of the few interviews available with him in English.
