“In the end it just comes down to playing your best and working on your game”

This week we had a meet-up with Era7er, who is coaching our 6-max students in the advanced group. The limits he is playing on currently are € 400-2 k, and he could play even higher.

If you want to find out, why he does not play higher, continue reading.

Which stakes are you playing right now and on which did you play in the past?

Right now I am playing 400-2 k, sometimes mixing some NL 200 zoom tables if I don’t have enough of 500 is not playable.

I could play higher but since its very hard to get tables thanks to scripts etc, and the variance to play to different limits increases, I am not interested in pushing the variance, so I play 2k maximum. Back in the days, I was playing up to 10 k.
When did you actually start playing poker?

I started playing poker I think it was in 2009. I started with short stack strategy on NL 10 or 20 I think it was. And I played until 200 or so and then switched to big stack strategy and went from there.

I am basically playing the same game since then. I also played some tourneys sometimes.

How is it for you to be coach? What do you like most about that?

I like coaching a lot overall, I like to explain things to people who are worse than me and help them.
Well, these days I am kind of used to being a coach, but back in the days it was really exciting to be a coach because at the beginning I was also watching so many videos and taking coaching from other people and now I can basically do all that myself, which is really exciting to me obviously. I think that would be like this for every poker player 🙂

Where do you actually come from or live right now and how is it to live there?

I come from Germany and live in Malta right now. I moved there a bit more than 2 years ago. It’s really nice, nice weather, nice people a lot of cool locations to go out, which sometimes steels away the focus from poker 🙂
What advice would you give the students?

It’s pretty hard to say whats the best advice because these days its more like you have to be good in any aspect of the game or you won’t be winning.

But one important thing in poker is probably to realize that it is not fair everything and people – even though they are way worse than you – can have way more luck and win way more, for example, most of the tournament pros who are really successful are just running millions over EV).

So in the end, it just comes down to playing your best and working on your game as much as possible and see what comes out. basically we are all just hoping to not run too bad 😀
