BPC is international: Rutger from the Netherlands

Meet “justplayff” aka Rutger, he is a member of our 6-max Crusher team.

Rutger decided for poker instead of a 9-5 job. Smart move!

When and why did you start playing poker?

I started playing poker about 2 years ago. Just having some fun and didn’t take it really seriously. I was grinding the NL2 zoom games on PokerStars and after a few months, I made like 600 dollars.

Then I cashed it out and didn’t play for a while. Made a few small deposits after that, but never played higher than NL10.

Why did you decide to join us?

I read something about this guy named Gordon Gekko, who was turning average poker players into big winners. At that time my plan was to go to university and study fiscal economics.

This would take me at least 3 years to finish and probably 1 more year to get my master. Then after 4 years I would go to a 9 to 5 job and get a bit more than average salary.

Looking at those 10k+ graphs, a boring 9 to 5 job with 3k salary doesn’t seem that appealing to me. I know I can do better than this.
I’ve always been someone who likes to take calculated risks. I’ve been playing checkers on a high level since I was 9 years old and checkers and poker have quite some similarities.

A great opportunity appeared when BPC decide to open their program again and take on new students. From that moment I knew I wanted to be a professional poker player and BPC seems like the ultimate shortcut to accomplish this.

How has being in BPC has improved your game?

So far I’ve improved tremendously. Obviously strategy wise, but also mentally. I learned what it takes to be successful at this game.

I am also close to never tilting anymore and I learned how to approach different situations on the tables. There is still huge improvement possible, so I have to keep working on all areas.

Where do you live and how is it to live there?
I live in IJsselstein, it’s close to Utrecht. It’s not too big, but you basically have everything you need here and it takes only 20 minutes to get to Utrecht (where you can find the bigger clubs etc).
What do you do, outside of poker?
I am going to the gym a lot (love the fitness lifestyle) and kickboxing twice a week. I also like to hang out/party with my friends.

How do you motivate yourself for the daily grind?

I am motivated to improve. This simply means making more money but also becoming a better poker player. I truly believe I can easily make 20-30k a month if I just put in the work.

I enjoy playing poker, so I don’t need any other motivation to sit down and play.

Do you have a special hand or moment in poker?

No, I don’t have any special hand or moment in poker, for me, it’s about long term. A single hand or moment doesn’t really matter. Just keep making the right decisions over and over again and you will end up being a winner.

Thanks a lot for your time!
