60-Minute Master: Spin & Go Part 8: Big Blind vs Small Blind

This lesson is the last step in our 3-handed beginner strategy for Spin & Go, and that is how to play the Big Blind when the Small Blind raises. All other situations have been previously covered, so if you have questions, or are unsure of anything, please go back and review before continuing with this lesson. STARTING HANDS Below, you will find a starting hand chart for playing and defending against a Small Blind open. From the chart, you can see that we can shove a much wider range versus a Small Blind open than we would against a Button open. So, what is the reason for this? Well, we can raise a lot wider range here because the Button has to fold out 2 hands vs the Small Blind having to only fold out 1 hand. The Button’s range is generally tighter so we should re-shove a tighter range vs the Button. However, since the Small Blind is stealing with typically a higher frequency, we can shove a wider range. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, so don’t be afraid to adjust your re-shove range slightly once you have enough information on your opponents. WHEN THE SMALL BLIND OR BUTTON COMPLETES If you’re in the Big Blind with a hand that’s not good enough for an all-in but you get a free-play (the Small Blind or Button only call preflop, so that you can see the flop for free), you should go all-in on the flop if you hit top pair (Tx or higher) or better. Otherwise, you simply check and fold to any bet. QUIZ TIME! Read through the questions carefully and really put some thought into solving them. The answers can be found below the banner. No cheating! Questions:
  1. You have JTo and 14BB stack. The BTN folds and the SB limps. What’s your play preflop? Flop comes J34 and SB checks. What is your play now?
  2. You have 3BB and 93o. The SB calls. What do you do?
  3. Which Aces are we folding when the SB raises us?
  4. Which offsuit Jacks do we fold with a 13BB stack?
Answers:
  1. We check preflop and we go all-in on that flop.
  2. We go all in. With 3BB we shove every hand.
  3. None. We go all in with all Aces in this spot.
  4. JTo-J2o
