60-Minute Master: Spin & Go Part 1, Why Play Spin & Go?

Spin & Go poker tournaments are the newest craze in the poker world. In this 12-part master series, you will learn why you should play Spins and some basic strategy to get you comfortable with the format to start playing a profitable style quickly. In this introductory lesson, you will learn about the benefits of playing Spin & Go’s. The top 3 reasons to play Spins are:

  1. Jackpot Potential
  2. The Rec:Reg Ratio
  3. Rakeback & Bonuses

JACKPOT POTENTIAL

Spin & Go’s add a lottery element to the game, plain and simple. The prize pools are randomly assigned to each tournament and can range from twice the buy-in up to 12,000 times the buy-in! Most Spin & Go tournaments are 3-handed with winner take all, but if you hit the 12,000, 240, or 120 multipliers, then generally 2nd and 3rd place receive 10% of the first place prize. Imagine sitting at a $1 buy-in table and winning $10,000 (12k multiplier with $1,000 to 2nd and 3rd). Sounds like a sick life to me! Just check out this $1.2 million prize pool!

REC:REG RATIO

Because there is massive potential for fast money, Spin & Go’s attract all types of players including many newbie players. The rec:reg ratio is the number of recreational players vs the number of regular players playing in any given game. Since you can win a massive amount of money compared to your buy-in many recreational and beginner poker players choose to play Spins. It’s obvious why this is good for us! The more casual players are playing the games the more opportunity for us to profit. Bumhunting with the potential of hitting a huge multiplier means a massive potential for profit!

RAKEBACK & BONUSES

Spin & Go’s are actually an expensive game with the rake as high as 7%! But because the rake is so high and the games are very beatable due to fish and recreational players, there is a chance for players to quickly rise up the ranks with both rakeback and bonus structures.

The jackpot, rec:reg ratio and rakeback combine to make Spin & Go’s one of the most exciting forms of poker available on the internet today! In most Spin & Go’s, the entire prize pool goes only to the winner. Because of this, we will not care about busting in 3rd or 2nd. We will be playing a strategy that will give us the best chance to win the tournament.

In order to make optimal poker decisions in this fast-paced form of poker, we need to determine a few things.

1) Position – Where are we playing relative to the blinds. 2) Effective Stack Size – How many chips will we be playing for. 3) Situation – Has our opponent shown us strength or interest in the pot.

Once we know the information above we can determine whether our hand is playable. In this beginner strategy, we will be playing an All In or Fold game. This means we will be pushing our entire stack in an attempt to steal the blinds or get value when we have a good hand. In the next few lessons, we will be covering Position, Effective Stack Size and Situation in more depth. This will give us a good base to move forward with the strategy.

Stay tuned for the next article in the series Part 2: Determining Position.
