TOP 9 – Poker Destinations

As I just made a poker trip to Glasgow I searched for the best poker destinations in the world. My list of great poker destinations contains the classic places in every continent combined with a few exotic surprises. Guess what? Unfortunate Glasgow didn’t make my list… What is your favorite poker destination?

Johannesburg (South Africa)

Starting the list with an alternative poker destination; South Africa. The first WSOPA was held in October 2010 at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark near Johannesburg, giving poker a big boost in South Africa. There are plenty of games to choose from both cash-game and tournament formats.

South Africa makes for a great holiday destination. If you get send early to the rail, there’s plenty of ways to enjoy yourself with unforgettable safaris and wildlife experiences (photo).

Las Vegas (USA)

Sin City is the classical number 1 gamble destination in the world. The Strip is filled with incredible casinos and cardrooms, attracting tourists and grinders from all over the world. Aside from all poker opportunities, Vegas is simply one of the most incredible places on earth – for me, it felt like walking into a fairytale.

London (UK)

A lot of grinders choose the English capital as their home. This is a reason why London is one of the most important poker cities in 2015. The city has a number of casinos and card clubs to choose from and the city having been a regular stopover for the EPT for many years. On top of the great poker opportunities, London is great for sightseeing; The London Eye, the Big Ben, theaters, museums, gardens, shopping areas and historical architecture.

Macau (China)

This Chinese gambling destination brings in more cash than Las Vegas! It’s the biggest gamble hub of Asia and has become popular enough for Pokerstars to include it on their Asian Pacific Poker Tour. Macau has a lot of casinos and cardrooms to keep the poker player happy. Since poker was introduced in 2007 it has been growing and these days big names like Phil Ivey, Sam Trickett, and Tom Dwan make history playing the biggest live pots ever recorded.

Melbourne (Australia)

Going Down Under, Melbourne, with its laid-back beach culture, is a great pick as a poker holiday destination. The Crown Casino, home of the Aussie Millions, is situated in the lively Southbank area along the Yarra River.

Poker is hot in Australia which results in lots of cash-game action, after running up your stack you can spend your money in shops, cafes and restaurants just around the corner of the casino. Rent a car on your free day and drive the most spectacular road in the world “Great Ocean Road” (picture).

Monte Carlo (Monaco)

James Bond gambled in several movies at the Monte Carlo Casino. Monte Carlo is a very glamorous destination, located on the French Rivera. Without any neon lights, it’s a slightly different destination than Las Vegas or Macau. Bring your Gucci sunglasses and order a bottle of champagne, as in Monte Carlo it’s all about the fancy lifestyle.

Paradise Island (Bahamas)

Probably the most exotic destination on the list is Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Each January the Atlantis Resort hosts the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure, attracting thousands of online poker players every year. Fantastic beaches (picture), a great nightlife and loads of entertainment for the whole family make Paradise Island a top destination.

Punta Del Este (Uruguay)

Luxurious hotels, casinos & trendy nightclubs, Punta Del Este is called “St. Tropez of Uruguay”. The beach resort of Punta Del Este has been a regular stop for the Latin American Poker Tour. So if you like poker and want to visit South America don’t miss out on Punta Del Este.

San Jose (Costa Rica)

Another alternative pick for our adventurous poker players is San Jose in Costa Rica. Gambling in this Central American country is legal and there are plenty casinos to choose from. Spending the day at the beach, experience the rainforest (picture) and end the day gambling in the casino makes Costa Rica a popular destination.
